Mandate:

• To be the leader in promoting vision health and enhancing independence for people with vision loss.

The CNIB:

1. Provides vital programs and services, innovative consumer products, peer support and one of the world's largest libraries for people with print disabilities.
2. Focuses on protection and prevention today, as well as on treatments and cures for tomorrow.

The CNIB is a nationwide, community based, registered charity committed to research, public education and vision health for all Canadians.  CNIB provides the services and support necessary for people to enjoy a good quality of life while living with vision loss.

CNIB Serves Weyburn and Surrounding Area

Assistive Technology Services: Provides information about the availability, selection, use and purchase of devices best suited to individual needs, through demonstration, assessment, training and technical support.

Career and Employment Services: Provides vocational assessments, helps individuals explore career interests, develops employment plans, markets to potential employers, and investigates job opportunities and accommodations.

Child and Family Services: Provides supportive counselling, service coordination, information, advocacy and programming for children and their families.

Independent Living: Provides life-skills training to help manage the essentials of daily living with an emphasis on maintaining independence - from safe and effective methods of cooking and doing household tasks such as laundry, to banking, writing, and personal care.

Indoor and Outdoor Travel: Provides instruction on how to move safely around your home or travelling outside.

Support and Self-Help Groups: Client group programs provide a venue to discuss work, home life, activities of daily living, or leisure and community participation.  Self-help groups are facilitated by staff and volunteers who may have vision loss.  For more information or to join the Weyburn Peer Group "Vision Unlimited" call:  Tannis at 842-5565, Jim at 842-4401 or Shirley at 842-6372.  The group meets on the last Wednesday of each month at 1:00 p.m.

CNIB Service Days, held in Weyburn provide the opportunity to access service to residents of the area.  The entire CNIB Southern Saskatchewan Team come to town and in addition to all of the supports listed, provide education sessions, public awareness, and other support to clients, families, caregivers and the community at large.  For more information, please call 1-800-563-2642 and ask for the Regina office.
