Canadian Red Cross

Mandate:

  • To improve the lives of vulnerable people by mobilizing the power of humanity in Canada and around the world.

The Canadian Red Cross in Weyburn and area:

  • Recruits and trains local volunteers to support individuals who have suffered a house fire or other personal disaster.  We can provide up to 72 hours of assistance in the immediate aftermath of an event, such as emergency food, clothing and lodging, as well as hygiene kits, personal items and referrals.
  • Of course Red Cross is always recruiting volunteers, training, and providing public education so that citizens are prepared in the event of a major disaster such as flooding, wildfires or chemical spill.
  • Our Violence & Abuse prevention programs provide training to educators, youth ad relationships.  We have trained presenters from the Saskatchewan Roughriders who speak to schools and communities about these issues and how to get help -- for yourself, or a friend, and encourage children and youth never to be bystanders to bullying, violence or abuse.  We also support bullying prevention initiatives that get the whole community involved, such as Red Cross Pink Day, youth rallies, and youth symposium (training) opportunities.
  • we are known for our First Aid and water safety programs through which children and adults can take training and be safer from injuries or drowning.
  •  Red Cross also educates on Humanitarian Issues and International Humanitarian Law.
