The Violence Intervention Program (V.I.P.) was formed on February 28, 1994. V.I.P. came into existence because of the hard work and dedication of two groups: The Weyburn Committee Against Family Violence and the Estevan Society Against Family Violence and the. Both were in existence for over 10 years.

V.I.P. is a nonprofit, community based (C.B.O.) organization governed by a Board of Directors consisting of members from communities in Southeast Saskatchewan. Our core funding comes from the Department of Community Resources. All services are free and confidential.

Our program has developed services and support for those persons affected by violence in their lives. Our Vision Statement reads: We envision all individuals living in a happy, healthy environment. Our Mission Statement reads:  We will encourage and support healthy choices in individuals, families and communities by offering innovative programming and diverse counselling and support services.

Services are offered to survivors and secondary survivors of:

1) Family Violence – (victims and witnesses)
2) Sexual Assault
3) Dating Violence
4) Past Childhood Abuse
5) Older Person Abuse

The priorities of the program are to provide:
1) Counselling and Support Services
2) Educational programming
3) Group Support Services
4) Crisis intervention
This includes crisis sheltering, transportation to Transition Houses in Regina and Moose Jaw, 24Hour Help/Support Line, advocacy, referrals and information.

Counselling: We provide ongoing and crisis counselling.  All services are free and a person can call the office to book an appointment with a counsellor. Referrals are usually seen within 24 hours. Program referrals are approx. 350 per year.

Groups and Workshops: VIP offers Women’s group workshops in Weyburn. Workshops focus on self esteem, healthy expressions of feelings, assertiveness and empowerment for women.

Outreach: VIP also is available for presentations surrounding the issues of family violence, dating violence, partner abuse, violence in our society, sexual assault, and healthy relationships. In the schools we deliver presentations on peer pressure, verbal abuse, healthy expression of feelings, friendships and dating violence to grades seven and up.

Crisis Intervention: VIP has a 24Hour Abuse/Sexual Assault Support Line that receives approximately 45 calls per month. The line averages 575 calls per year. We have 25 volunteers who run our 24hour Help/Support line from their homes.
We also provide crisis sheltering for up to 48 hours in Weyburn and Estevan.

Other Programming:
In addition to our programming for victims of abuse and violence we also have contracts from the Department of Community Resources for their In-Home Family Support Program and from Sun Country Health District to manage their Child and Youth and ABI In-Home Support Programs.
Geographical Service Area:
VIP covers southeast Saskatchewan including the three health districts of Moose Mountain, South Central and South East.
